I spied Noon Lodge on the Instagram of California Through My Lens awhile ago and was stuck on the idea. A couple weeks later I booked it and was set for a trip to Big Bear. I’ve only been once a few years ago.
Sadly, the pool was closed for the season but they had some lawn games, BBQs, Adirondack chairs spread about, a fireplace, and bikes.
We walked around The Village and checked out a couple of bars – Murray’s Saloon for a beer and Oakside for a cocktail and wine and the Dodgers-Red Sox game. Afterwards, we headed over to Oktoberfest. It’s one of better ones! It was packed but there were plenty of lines that were pretty fast. They also had music and games like stein holding.
I didn’t drink at Oktoberfest so I was ready for Sunday – I got a pumpkin chai at Moonridge Coffee Shop and then we went on a 16 mile bike ride from Noon Lodge to the Alpine Pedal Path and looped back. We had some uphill on single speed bikes and it was killer!
Big Bear didn’t have many spots that appealed to us – we checked out Himalayan Restaurant and were disappointed – instead, we drove to Cedar Glen Malt Shop. I got a mushroom Swiss burger protein style and had half of this kid’s shake.
Jordan forgot his hiking boots so we didn’t go hiking, but here are some options I found:
- Castle Rock
- Hanna Flat Trail to Gray’s Peak
- Pine Knot Trail to Grand View Point
- Sugarloaf Mountain
- Cougar Crest Trail to Bertha Peak
I took a 2 hour nap after getting home and started to do some work for the week. It feels so much like fall/Thanksgiving break that I’m having a hard time returning to work. Why oh why? Looks like the start of a Sunday night existential crisis…
